If I Go (Chicago)

Oh Chicago, Chicago
I'm not afraid
I have come for to tell you
the plans I've made
I have come for to tell you
the plans I've made
Oh Chicago, Chicago
I'm not afraid

If I go it's gotta be right now
Oh oo oo

It won't make sense
When I try to explain
the question, the answer
They're both same
the question, the answer
They're both same
It won't make sense
When I try to explain

If I go it's gotta be right now
Oh oo oo

I'll meet you on the edge of town
Where the White City burned down
If you get there before I do
With the wind, I'm a coming,
I'm a coming on home to you

Oh Chicago, Chicago
Don't be afraid
You and I
We're much the same
You and I
We're much the same
Oh Chicago, Chicago
Don't be afraid

If I go it's gotta be right now

MIRA & CHUCK: "This song began as the prompt 'Frightened' from the RealWomenRealSongs project Mira was a part of 2012-2013 -- hence "O Chicago, Chicago, I'm not afraid..." and "don't be afraid" -- we were inspired to write about Chicago because it was the city that reconnected us. It's a love song to the city, and in this song the city is all of it -- your home, your lover, your truth. It's about owning up to where, who, what that is, and moving towards it completely. There's also an acknowledgment that there are always deeper ways of knowing -- there's a part about the White City that burned down -- that to us feels like, that sometimes wounded, unadorned part of everything that is revealed in time -- 'if you get there before I do...'"
