Fists Full Of Flowers

You've got a heart worth more than its weight in gold,
And the mind to stay true to a gypsy soul,
Hands that I can't help but hold,
and you think that I'll still be beautiful when I'm old

I've been wading through waves where the crickets sing
when the sky is so dark I can see everything
Maybe we're all spinning around a black hole,
but I think that you'll still be beautiful when you're old

Love me, love me not
Love, we've got
Hours and hours
and fists full of flowers

Once we planted a garden, but it didn't grow
...not where we wanted 'cause the seeds had blown
over the fence into the field, oh - oh
do you think it'll still be beautiful when we're old?

Love me, love me not
Love, we've got
Hours and hours
and fists full of flowers

Do you think it'll still be beautiful when we're old?
Do you think it'll still be beautiful when we're old?
'Cause I think it'll still be beautiful when we're old.

From MIRA: "This was the first song that I wrote after quitting my job and deciding to play music full-time. I was visiting my mom and stepdad, sitting in their living room looking out at the open field and the river where they live, and the garden. The previous night I had been standing out in the front yard staring at the stars for a long time, listening to the crickets, thinking about where I was in my life, all the twists and turns that had happened leading up to that exact moment, and also, feeling that feeling of being so small in the whole expanse of the universe and time. You know  I had also just watched a documentary about how there was possibly a black hole at the center of our galaxy...ha!...so all of the images in this song are pulled very much from specific things that were around me then. And so, to me, this song is about trusting you're exactly where you're supposed to be regardless of the things that have or haven't happened the way you thought they would -- being thankful for the moment -- not worrying too much about the past or the future, about missed opportunities, or growing older. And within that understanding that change can be a beautiful thing."
